2nd Young Talents' Symposium of Evolutionary Biology

Back to List

On September 24, 2023, the 2nd Young Talents' Symposium of Evolutionary Biology, organized by The Center for Evolutionary & Organic Biology at Zhejiang University, was successfully held at the Yuanzheng Qizhen Hotel in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The symposium aimed to provide a platform for outstanding young scholars in evolutionary biology to exchange ideas and foster connections with The Center for Evolutionary & Organic Biology at Zhejiang University and other domestic institutions. To achieve this, esteemed professors and researchers from various domestic research institutions were invited as guests to engage in discussions with participants during this symposium.

As distinguished guests of the symposium, Professor Li Yu from Yunnan University, Professor Jiatang Li from the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Professor Guang Yang from Nanjing Normal University, Professor Shuai Zhan from CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences, and Professors Shaohong Feng, Haoxuan Liu, Xing-Xing Shen, and Guojie Zhang from The Center for Evolutionary & Organic Biology at Zhejiang University, collectively hosted the event.

The symposium embraced a blended approach, combining both physical and virtual participation. Twelve young scholars hailing from China, the United States, Switzerland, and Germany delivered comprehensive 30-minute presentations centered around evolutionary biology themes. These discussions sparked in-depth exchanges among invited experts and the audience. The presentations encompassed a wide spectrum of fields, including phylogenetics, computational biology, comparative genomics, evolutionary developmental biology, and ancient DNA studies. Topics ranged from the micro-scale of gene evolution to the macro-scale of population evolution. These budding scholars meticulously explored cutting-edge scientific queries surrounding human evolution as well as the evolution of diverse flora and fauna. Their discussions presented attendees with a multifaceted perspective on research accomplishments.
